Do I Need Pool Heat?
Learn when pool heat is worth it, what affects water temperature, and how to plan a more comfortable Arizona stay.
Why Pool Heat Matters
Pool temperatures drop whenever outdoor temperatures drop, and water below 80 degrees can feel too cool for many swimmers. For guests visiting Arizona from fall through spring, adding pool heat can make the pool much more enjoyable and help avoid disappointment during the stay.
In the greater Phoenix area, warm sunshine makes year-round swimming possible in many heated pools, but temperatures still vary by month. Cooler mornings, lower evening temperatures, and changing weather conditions all affect how comfortable an unheated pool will feel.
What Affects Pool Temperature
A few key conditions can make a noticeable difference in how warm a pool feels during your stay.
Current and recent weather conditions
Daily sun exposure, especially in spring/summer
Wind, humidity, and overnight heat loss
Pool size, depth, and surface area
Pool Heat, Spas, and What to Expect
Arizona Vacation Home Rentals strongly recommends pool heat from October through May. Pool heat is charged as a daily fee based on the home and pool size, and when added, the pool is guaranteed to reach 80 degrees, with temperatures sometimes going higher. It usually takes about 24 hours to bring a pool up to temperature, and heating often requires a minimum of four days.
If guests decide after arrival that they want pool heat, it can still be added, but usable swim time may be reduced while the water warms up. In-ground spas are included when pool heat is purchased. If pool heat is not added, guests may still be able to heat the in-ground spa for a small daily fee. Standalone hot tubs are heated for guests and usually do not require an added fee.
